Der Sammelband gibt einen Überblick über das Leben in 40 Jahren DDR anhand von rund 200 ausgewählten Objekten aus dem Alltag. Die Exponate zeigen die Auswirkungen von Mangelwirtschaft und Ideologie, aber auch individuelle Wünsche und Handlungsspielräume. So entsteht ein vielschichtiges Bild der Lebenswirklichkeit zwischen Kriegsende und Mauerfall. Das Autorenteam ordnen die Objekte historisch ein.
This anthology offers an overview of 40 years of life in the GDR through around 200 selected everyday objects. The exhibits reveal the effects of the shortage economy and ideology, but also individual desires and room for manoeuvre. The result is a multifaceted picture of everyday reality between the end of the war and the fall of the Wall. The team of authors places the objects in their historical context.
